Manifold Research Group tackles ambitious, high-impact research problems that traditional institutions overlook—those too engineering-intensive for academia and too exploratory for industry. Inspired by visionary models like ARPAs and FROs, we assemble focused, cross-functional teams to systematically pursue and deliver paradigm-shifting science and technology.

Responsibilities

As an OS Operations Fellow, you'll play a role in shaping Manifold into the cutting-edge research institute it aims to be. Your work will directly enable groundbreaking research by improving organizational effectiveness, expanding community engagement, orchestrating impactful events, enhancing dissemination of research outputs, and developing compelling external-facing materials. Without the vital contributions of the Operations Team, Manifold’s ambitious research vision simply cannot be realized.

The OS Operations Team is fundamentally responsible for:

  • Empowering high-quality, strategically-targeted, ambitiously scaled research through comprehensive operational support.
  • Maximizing the reach, visibility, and transformative impact of Manifold’s research outputs.

The Role

In this role, you'll help design and implement the systems, events, and strategies that deepen engagement both within the Manifold community and with the broader world. Your work will help cultivate a vibrant, high-context internal environment and ensure our research efforts are legible, visible, and connected to external collaborators, institutions, and communities.

In this role, you'll:

  • Design and launch internal initiatives that strengthen contributor engagement, visibility, and collaboration across programs.
  • Lead outreach and activation efforts to grow Manifold’s external presence and expand our network of researchers, partners, and supporters.
  • Develop and host events that bring people together—ranging from internal syncs to public research showcases.
  • Help shape and maintain the tone, identity, and narrative that unify our internal culture and external communications.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone with some combination of the following:

  • Experience with community building, outreach, or event production—formally or informally.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across contexts and mediums.
  • High proactivity and follow-through—you take initiative and bring others along.
  • A collaborative, systems-thinking mindset and a deep interest in making great research more possible.
  • A strong sense of taste and alignment with Manifold’s mission and brand.

Expectations

A few key expectations regarding the OS Operations Team:

  • Dedicate approximately 10 hours per week to drive meaningful impact and maintain consistent engagement with operational projects. Flexibility around life commitments is understood; clear, proactive communication helps us support each other.
  • Our working language is English, and strong proficiency is necessary for effective and clear communication.
  • Manifold is currently an entirely volunteer driven, open science focused effort; none of us receive compensation of any kind—including monetary payment, academic credit, or other formal incentives. Our commitment is driven entirely by shared passion for enabling groundbreaking research.

We look forward to seeing your application and hopefully working together soon!
