Last week, we released our new research on autonomous self-repair for modular spacecraft. On August 14th, we’ll present the work as part of Manifold’s Frontiers talk series:

We’ll explore how damaged modular spacecraft can reorganize using local distress signals, decentralized decision-making, and connectivity-safe motion.

We’ll discuss the biological ideas that inspired the method, how the repair strategy works, what we learned from rigid-body simulations, and why the limits of strictly local repair point toward the next generation of autonomous reconfiguration systems.

The broader goal is to give machines capabilities analogous to biological morphogenesis and homeostasis, allowing them to adapt their physical organization and preserve function after unexpected failures.
